An update on our building work

The construction of the temporary accommodation has been completed.

Well done to all of our students in Years 9 and 12 for completing their assessments this week. A reminder that students in Year 7 have assessments next week, and students in Year 8 the following week (w/b 27th January). Remember that students can see guidance on their ‘Assessment’ page on their Frog account. This shows each student what to prepare and how to do well.

The school building project – an update

I am delighted to confirm (at the time of writing!) that everything is happening in line with the timelines shared with us by the build team. The construction of the temporary accommodation has been completed, and at present power and data are being run through. After the February half term, we will start moving in furniture.

The good news is that the classrooms are spacious and bright. I have shared this before, but a reminder that all of our specialist rooms will be kitted out to the same spec if not better than we currently have. This means that all science laboratories will have full facilities (gas taps, spaces and surfaces for practicals), the food rooms have cookers and sinks and the art rooms have full facilities, including our darkroom for photography students (pictured above and below).

The plan is for us to take possession of the temporary accommodation at the start of the summer term. We are making plans for our students in Year 11 and Year 13, to ensure that our two year groups sitting public exams this summer are prioritised. Over the next few months I will continue to share updates as we get closer to taking over the temporary accommodation.

Students of the week

This week I met up with a range of students for different reasons. Some had significantly improved their attendance, while others were celebrating large numbers of achievement points – and zero negative points. I also particularly enjoyed meeting three Sixth Form students who had spent hours helping Mrs Bell by cleaning out the large fridges in our food technology rooms. They do not study the subject but simply offered to help – a very selfless act.

Well done to each of the students below for being nominated this week. I look forward to hearing about each of their achievements and the contributions that they have made to the school.
