Playing our part in the local community
There will be a Foodbank collection on Monday and Tuesday next week.
One of the features of our school is that we want to play a key part in the local community. I absolutely believe in the importance of all of our students taking responsibility for their own decisions, as well as also supporting others. In last Friday’s letter I shared information about our important fundraising for the local charity Jigsaw4U. At other times of the year we also ask students to think about how donating goods, not just money, can help others.
Harvest Foodbank Collection – Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd October
This autumn, at the time of year when crops are harvested and ripened fruit is picked, our Social Action Group has decided to make food donations to the Sutton Foodbank.
On Monday and Tuesday of next week at each gate to the school there will be collection boxes for donations of tinned foods, drinks such as dried coffee, tea bags and long-life milk, as well as instant foods such as noodles, rice and pasta. Toiletries such as toothpaste and shampoo are also welcome. Please see the poster below.
If you have a spare of these items in your cupboards, or are able to add any of these to the family shop this weekend, the donations would be gratefully received by the Sutton Foodbank. While I know that the purchase of the items will not be made with students’ own money, I am certain that the act of carrying the items to school and putting the donations into crates is an important act of giving. I also know that this act reminds our students of how we can support one another.

Maintaining great attendance
The overall attendance of our students has been great this term, and please ensure that your child ends the term by attending five out of five days next week. A quick note, that the flu vaccination is on Thursday 24th October for students in Years 7 to 11. If your child feels any minor side effects, they should still attend school as normal. Please just use whatever pain relief you would use with your youngster at home. Thank you for your support.
Early closure, Thursday 14th November from 1:20pm
From 4:30pm on Thursday 14th November we will be running our annual Sixth Form Open Evening. This is an event for Year 11 students in Sutton and beyond, that informs them about the subjects we offer and what life in our Sixth Form is like. To prepare for this, we will need to set up a large range of subject classrooms and get the site ready so we will teach the first four lessons as normal, then complete afternoon registration and students should leave the site.
It would be very helpful for us if as many students as possible have their lunch at home that day so we are able to prepare for our open evening. Students who are entitled to free school meals will be able to access these at morning break, or after pm registration, so no young person should not receive their meal entitlement on that day. Apologies for any inconvenience, but this will allow us to give a really good impression on a day that is important for our recruitment of our next group of Sixth Form students.
Wishing you all a very happy weekend.
