Greenshaw High School

Messages for the school holidays

Another busy school year comes to a close.

So that’s that – another busy year comes to a close. Thank you all for your support and efforts in ensuring we have had a really successful year. It seems like years ago now, but this year has seen a really pleasing Ofsted letter released back in November, many successes on the sports pitches and creative arts and our hopes go to students awaiting their results for another month or so in Year 11 and 13.

We finished the year with a range of enrichment activities, from performances from visiting theatre groups to visits off site to museums (click here for more details). As ever, I express my huge thanks to the groups of staff, teaching and non-teaching, that make up our school. Greenshaw is the collective outcome of over two hundred staff, each of whom plays a key part. Here are a few of the key headlines for next year. I will write to you again at the end of August, but here is the key information for the summer.

Support while school is closed

At Greenshaw we work closely with a variety of agencies, including the London Borough of Sutton, volunteer groups and the NHS. Please be aware that our website has many signposts to support agencies in the section ‘Care and Support’ as needed.

Extended PE in Year 7 and 8

As I wrote last Friday, students in next year’s Year 7 and 8 will be having an extended day every other Tuesday. This will mean that our students’ experience of PE can continue to be first rate, despite the loss of some of our sports facilities for the impending building work.Details will come out later on this afternoon from Miss Wiffill (Head of Year 8 from September) and Miss Wilson (Head of our new Year 7 students from September).

Getting school ready

As someone who will be replenishing the school uniform of my younger child this August, I know we may all be buying new items later in the summer. We consciously keep our uniform costs low, amongst the lowest of any Sutton secondary school, and I really do not want you to spend money on items that your youngster would not be allowed to wear. Please check the school website for our uniform requirements here

Key September dates

  • Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd September: school staff return to school for two INSET days.
  • Wednesday 4th September: induction days for Year 7 and Year 12 students only.
  • Thursday 5th September: partial day for all years (see times below). This allows us to share timetables for the coming school year, students to have an assembly with myself and their Head of Year, meet their tutors and get set for the coming year.
  • Friday 6th September: all year groups are in for full days from this day on.

Please see the tables below for full details of these arrangements.

Access over the summer

The vast majority of our staff are on annual leave over the summer holidays but we do continue to check emails at office@greenshaw.co.uk. Although the phone lines will not be constantly open we will check for any messages periodically. If there is something you need clarity on that you cannot find from our website please do feel free to message us and we will do our best to respond, but be aware this may take a couple of days.

I wish you all an enjoyable summer. If you are lucky enough to be going away then I hope you have good travels, and for all of our families and students I hope they have restful breaks.

Mr N House, Headteacher
