Greenshaw High School

Sports day season – one down, one to come!

Congratulations to 7MMR and 8UUM for winning the lower school athletics championship.

It has been a busy week at school. We were delighted to meet our new students for September, including both students from Year 6 and those looking to join Year 12. In addition, I would like to thank so many of our families for supporting our food bank collection (pictured) at the start of the week. Events like this are so important, helping our students to understand our communal responsibilities and showing how our school can support others locally here in Sutton.

Sports days – lower school results

The lower school athletics championship experienced clouds and light rain. Despite that, there was great participation in a wide range of events. These included the traditional races and relays and classic events like sack races, and even the egg and spoon made an appearance. The results for the lower school are below. Congratulations to students in Miss Martinez’s group in Year 7 and Miss Umeyor in Year 8.

Sports days – upper school, Tuesday 9th July

All students in Years 9 and 10 should go directly to Sutton Arena, off Tweedale Road. The gates will open from 8:15am and students should report to their tutors to register their attendance, with all students wearing full school PE kit.

We continue to monitor the weather forecast and will advise students on the most appropriate clothing – whether that might be a coat for the chance of rain, or sun cream and baseball caps. Good luck to all competitors in Years 9 and 10 on Tuesday.

Ten day attendance challenge – Monday 8th to Friday 19th July

As we did over the last two terms, we are setting the students the challenge to see how high we can get attendance for the third term of the year. I want as many students as possible to be in school to keep up with their studies and enjoy the enrichment days on Monday 22nd and 23rd July.

I spoke to all students in Years 7 to 10 in yesterday afternoon’s registration period, with the chance of some rewards. All students attending school from Monday 8th to Friday 19th July will be entered into a prize draw and have a chance to win one of the following prizes:

  • £50 Amazon gift voucher – four for each year group.
  • One chocolate hamper – for each year group.
  • A ‘bonus ball’ – all students that attend all the last 12 days of term will enter a draw for an additional £100 Amazon voucher.

At Greenshaw High School, our attendance is 1.5% ahead of the national average for all secondary schools, something to celebrate. Equally, every day missed from school makes the following day more challenging, so we are doing all we can to ensure that the coming two and a half weeks end the term on a high. Thank you for supporting us with this.

Uniform reminder – being September ready

Thank you to our families for ensuring that our students attend school in the correct uniform. I am really proud of just how smart our young people look, and the pride they take in their own appearance. I absolutely believe that setting high standards for all aspects of your daily routines – like being on time, always attending school and dressing smartly – enable students to set higher standards in focusing on learning.

I know that families will be making sure that tired school shoes, and older shirts and trousers last until the end of the year. Before purchasing new items for September, I would ask families to remind themselves of the uniform requirements and ensure that any new items (particularly shoes, skirts and trousers) are in line with our expectations. An outline of the uniform items is here on our website.

Our congratulations go to our stars of the week listed below for maintaining their commitment, focus and sense of drive. Well done to all.
