Summer is here at last

At last the summer sun turned up for a few hours this morning.

Classes in Year 7 headed off to the field for rounders and cricket, and I enjoyed giving catching practice to some of the students. Their query about how many achievement points they should receive on getting the headteacher out is something I have not quite resolved at this point. Safe to say, there are a number of students that deserve that reward! More importantly, it has been great to see our students across this week engaging in summer sports, and may the coming weeks continue with this fair weather.

Work experience for Year 9, April 2025

A big thank you to the many families of students in Year 9 that attended the information event about work experience last night. It was great to hear students currently in Year 10 tell families about what they had learned from visiting work placements last term, including developing confidence, communication skills, teamwork and project management. We are now working with our Year 9 students in school to explain their next steps and will continue to communicate with those families over the coming months.

Parent Survey – could you help us?

At school in the summer term we are already thinking about the next academic year. Mr Stock (Deputy Headteacher) will be launching a survey for students, so we can understand their thoughts and feelings on a range of topics to do with school. We would also like to hear the views of parents over the next week or so, before we make too many definite decisions for next year.

Many of you may find the questions familiar as the opening items are taken from the standardised Ofsted parental questionnaire. The benefit of using this is that there is national data for all schools that we can use to compare against our results. There are also questions just about Greenshaw, so please do complete the full survey.

The link is here and it will only take a couple of minutes. It is key for us to understand how parents feel about our school, both the strengths and weaknesses, so that we can continue to improve even further. Thank you for your time.

Managing anxiety in children and young people – online parent workshop

Education Wellbeing Practitioners are holding an online workshop for parents, focusing on how to understand and manage anxiety in children and young people. This is a workshop for parents and carers and your child does not need to attend. This workshop will be online on Monday 24th June from 5.00pm to 6.00pm. If you would like to attend the online workshop, please sign up here

Any questions, please contact office@greenshaw.co.uk for the attention of Ms Miles, Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead.

Communicating with school

Finally, I thought it might be helpful to clarify the best ways to contact us. Most of our teaching and non-classroom-based staff will have working days that are fairly booked. If you phone the school, our reception staff will take a message, and we will always endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible. We aim for this to be within two working days. Of course, this would not include urgent issues around safeguarding, for which we have staff available during the working day and any issues to do with health or first aid.

Wishing you all the very best.
