Supporting our community

Delivering Christmas cards to our local residents and donating food to the Sutton Foodbank.

Well here we are – at the start of the school holidays as we end the longest of the school terms, and one that is the wettest and darkest. Definitely time to turn the lights on and bring positivity, and there has been so much in school that has brought its own light into the winter gloom.

On Monday night in school, I attended (and helped judge) our Sixth Form talent show. It was presented by students, stage-managed by students, and the line up included: solo singers; street dancing; rock acts; Bhangra dancing; motivational speaking; and a large scale dance performance from members of our South Asian Appreciation Society. It was a joyous evening, full of mutual appreciation and celebration and knowing that the whole show was managed by our students made it all the more special.

Looking out for others – food donation

Thank you to the massive generosity shown by Greenshaw families this week. The Sutton Foodbank received well over one thousand different food items from our community, something that will make a real and immediate difference to local families in the depths of our cold and dark winter.

The collection of tins, jars, cereals, packs of pasta and rice, biscuits and treats filled out our reception area and showed just what a difference many individuals can make when we act collectively.

Smashing attendance – the Ten Day Challenge

One of the reasons we received so many items yesterday was because so many students were in school. They have responded brilliantly to my challenge to them to ensure they attend as much as possible until the last day of term, with our attendance continuing to increase.

Parents and carers of students who win the voucher draw for each year group will receive a digital voucher, on behalf of their child. We are doing this for the security of our children… but please make sure that you do pass the voucher details onto your child. I am sure you would not be tempted to keep them for your own purchases!

Stars of the term

Congratulations to our stars of the term who have demonstrated something special in their attitude to their peers, the community or their learning. Well done to each and every one of them.

Arrangements for the spring term

We look forward to welcoming all our students back to school ready to begin a new year and new term on Tuesday 9th January 2024. This will be Week 1 – please remind your child to pack the correct books for their week 1 timetable. Staff will be returning on Monday 8th January for training during our fourth INSET day for the year. The fifth INSET day is currently scheduled for Friday 28th June 2024.

Support while school is closed

At Greenshaw we work closely with a variety of agencies including the London Borough of Sutton, volunteer groups and the NHS. Please be aware that our website has many signposts to support agencies in the section ‘Care & Support’ as needed.

I hope all Greenshaw families find some rest time over the Christmas break and that all of us are able to spend time with family and friends. On behalf of the whole staff body, I wish you all the very best for Christmas and a very happy new year.
