Students and staff are celebrating hugely at Greenshaw High School as this year’s GCSE results equal the school’s best ever achievement. 76% of students attained at least 5A*-C grades, including English and Maths.  Of these, one in four of all GCSE grades achieved was at A* and A.

In the new way that schools are being measured from this September, the average grade achieved is estimated to be B-, and the progress value +0.29. This means that our students attained around one quarter of a GCSE grade higher than national average progress in each of their subjects.

Headteacher Nick House said: “I couldn’t be more thrilled with these grades. So many of our students have so much to be proud of: each grade is the product of the effort that the student has put in, so for these results to be so good speaks volumes for our outstanding students.  I wish each and every one good luck with the next phase of his or her education.”

Mr House added: “The last year was incredibly challenging for staff working in our school, and indeed all schools across the country. With new qualifications being introduced, changes to when students are allowed to enter exams, all alongside ever rising expectations of staff working in schools. These results show the determination, professionalism and sheer skill of the staff working at Greenshaw, regardless of external changes.”

Tim Kidd, Assistant Headteacher and Head of Year 11 was equally delighted. “We spent many long hours on revision techniques, preparing for these exams meticulously. I would particularly like to thank the families of Year 11 students who supported youngsters at a very stressful period of their lives. I hope they will feel it was definitely worth it today.”
